You are the one who can assure these children to have the chance to grow up safe and healthy.
On this project you will be part of a team of volunteers led by a group of social workers. They will help with different activities of the nursing home including games, reading stories and newspapers, general entertainment, and keeping the elderly company. You’ll work at an institution dedicated to the healthcare of the elderly. The home has four acres of land to provide a space for all necessary services so that the residents feel like a small community.
On this amazing space they have a residence for the elderly, a place for them to spend their day and also research facilities. They have many years of experience in the geriatric clinic field as well as in the treatment of sub-acute patients. All these services are supported by a dedicated group of highly trained professionals to improve the patients’ quality of life as well as the families’ wellbeing.
Providing a safe, clean and fun place to spend their days to the elderly is one of the noblest things you can do. They can no longer drive wherever they want or go shopping and sometimes they are far from the family they devoted their lives to. Giving them a full time care is the main goal of this organization. Improving their health, defining it as a complete physical, psychological and social wellbeing is the way to do it.
Sometimes is hard for the family to leave the love ones in an institution since they feel that they are not taking care of their elders as they once took care of them. So it’s important for the family to know that they are making the best choice.
This organization’s mission is to offer therapeutic options to meet the physical, psychological, social, recreational, cultural and spiritual needs of the seniors and their families providing a worthy place to care, understand and help.

As a volunteer you’ll have to open yourself up to the wisdom of the elderly patients and to the knowledge of the experienced staff. Certainly you’ll learn a lot and your help will be highly appreciated.
There many activities in which you can get involve. You can help at the institution or outside of it, and also in groups or with individual tasks. All of them imply giving affection to the elderly that need company and someone to listen to them. The activities you’ll take part in will be defined according to the institution’s needs and your expectations and skills.
At the institution you can play games with the patients, take walks on the field and read them the letters they receive or assist them with all the tech stuff like e-mails that sometimes is hard for them. You can also prepare workshops like yoga, music, literature, cooking, etc. You can also help by taking them to the hospital or to do different kinds of errands or just taking them on a day trip somewhere. These are just to name a few!

Requirements
Usual Volunteer Tasks
- Over 18 years old
- High school degree
- Health insurance, accident and liability
- Commitment to the Host Organization,its rules and tasks
- Affinity with elderly
- Flexibility and creativity
- Patience, enthusiastic spirit and lots of energy
- Experience working with elderly preffered but not mandatory
- Fulfill with all legal and formal requirements for your Volunteer*
*Latin American students applying for Volunteers in Spain must have a valid EU passport
- Providing friendship to the elderly: Keeping them company and chit chatting
- Organizing cultural activities and sports activities to improve the residents’ physical well-being
- Taking walks with them
- Doing grocery shopping
- Cooking and serving meals
- Cleaning, gardening and general maintenance
- Supporting the existing staff
- Arranging additional stimulating and fun activities for the residents like music shows, bingo sessions, card playing competitions, etc
- Assisting with bathing, dressing and personal grooming
The tasks named above will be arranged with every volunteer according to each one’s skills and special abilities.
