Preservation of national heritage

This archaeological project in Peru’s Sacred Valley offers international volunteers an immersive experience in archaeology and cultural heritage preservation. Located near Cusco, participants work with experienced archaeologists on tasks like site maintenance, artifact codification, reticulation, and mapping, tailored to the needs of each site.
Volunteers travel to various historical sites, directly contributing to the preservation of national heritage locations.

Partnering with Peru’s Ministry of Culture for 15 years, the project covers over 300 sites in the Sacred Valley, including Ollantaytambo, Moray, and Chinchero. The duties vary by site, and volunteers receive comprehensive guidance from local staff and archaeologists.

Volunteers must be prepared for physically demanding tasks and adhere to strictguidelines to respect and protect these invaluable heritage sites.

Requisitos

Students applying for Volunteers in Latinamerica must have a valid passport.

Tareas habituales de los voluntarios

Participants work with experienced archaeologists on tasks like site maintenance, artifact codification, reticulation, and mapping, tailored to the needs of each site. Their tasks may include:
- Create maps of sites and explore areas for new sites
- Participate in workshops (drawing, registry works, ceramics, and weaving)
- Clean and maintain sites (sweeping, cutting grass, removing weeds, etc)
- Reticulate and codify newly marked rocks
- Classify artifacts
- Assist in the conservation and upkeep of national heritage sites
- Engage in community events to support the local population
