Overview

How you will learn Spanish

Why we can guarantee it

Do you remember how you learned your native language? Of course not! But we bet it wasn’t by suffering long hours of boring grammar lessons… and yet is the language you know best so far!
The thing is, that you learned your language from interaction. Your correct sentences and vocabulary today are a result of the complex interplay between your uniquely human characteristics and the environment in which you grew up.

We follow  a method that emphasize interaction as both the means and the ultimate goal of learning a language and  are equipping our students with tools for generating unrehearsed language performance ‘out there’ when they leave the womb of our classrooms.  We are concerned with how to facilitate lifelong language learning among our students, not just with the immediate classroom task.  And what is very important for our method is that we experience the learning process as a “construction” at both sides, we are looking at learners as partners in a cooperative venture.  Always taking into account the learner’s own personal experiences as important contributing elements to classroom learning.

We also attempt to link classroom language learning with language activities outside the classroom making use of real-life situations that necessitate communication. The teacher sets up a situation that students are likely to encounter in real life. We teach through  meaningful ways about meaningful topics, as students’ motivation to learn comes from their desire to communicate.

At COINED we look at the use (function) of language in context, both its linguistic context and its social, or situational, context (who is speaking, what their social roles are, why they have come together to speak).

Our organization is accredited by many organizations world wide and that assures you that you will receive the highest standard of service and professional care . Also you will be receiving the certificate from an accredited organization which means that will be possible to transfer that as academic credits and that it will count on your CV. Our experience

We have been active in the international education industry since 1971. We have evolved in the field and have learned what is best for our students. Our experience and background are what we are most proud of and we are looking into the future just as we did all these years. We invite you to be part of our community!

Spanish Schools

Many locations

We have schools located all over Latin America and Spain because that’s what’s best for our students.
The Spanish-speaking world is very diverse. Spanish is the language of many separate countries. This means that there is no one standard dialect. By offering different destinations we are promoting this diversity.

We want you to get fully immersed in Latin American and Spanish culture and you can do that by combining different destinations and taking in everything each one has to offer. We do teach standard Spanish but you will also be able to learn about the special features that each region adds to the plain language.

Infrastructure

Our schools have what it takes for you to feel comfortable on your experience. All of them feature properly-equipped classrooms, areas for relaxation and a good environment for learning. All of our schools feature wi-fi internet connection and some of them have computers available for students as well. You also have access to a kitchen or kitchenette for snack time and also to gather round with your classmates and practice your newly acquired Spanish skills as you get to know people from all over the world.

You will be able to enjoy the activities planned every week and also some activities that might turn up out of the calendar. Our schools guarantee not only a full immersion but also, making new friends from all over the world.

Accreditations

Our schools, just like our organization is accredited by many organizations that nucleate, control and organize the industry. For that reason you can be sure that any COINED School you choose will offer:

  • Qualified Spanish language teachers.
  • Properly-equipped classrooms, areas for relaxation and a good environment for learning.
  • Suitable accommodation, which is regularly inspected for safety and suitability.
  • Proper 24-hour supervision of young learners on junior programs.

Our courses

Standarized

Our schools’ curriculum and teaching plans are framed by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The CEFR sets up systems of validation of language ability and it describes what a learner is supposed to be able to do in reading, listening, speaking and writing at each level setting a standard for all language schools.

Also, you will be able to start your course at one school and finish it in another school continuing exactly where you left off experiencing different environments, dialects and all of the Spanish-speaking world’s diversity!

For every neeed

We offer you Spanish courses fitted to all needs and interests. Each individual needs to focus on what’s important for him and choose the course that considers best.

Group vs Private

Interaction with others in the language you’re studying is of course, fundamental, for lasting learning. Taking a group course is the best way to get immersed in a new language since you’ll have to speak it with other students and also you’ll benefit from other students questions to the teacher. However sometimes, you may have little time, or you may already know some Spanish and want to focus on a specific topic and then, a private course would be the fit for you.

General vs Specialized

General Spanish courses give you the foundation for you to start feeling comfortable in common every day situations. This is the first thing you usually learn about a language because is simple enough for you to start feeling comfortable speaking the new language. It can happen also that you need to reinforce you Spanish skills in a particular area for professional or personal reasons, and in that case is best for you to take a specialized course, since you’ll have regular lessons to get the basics but you will also be able to deepen your knowledge on any specific field of interest.

For all ages

Languages are for every one. Yes, it is true that when your younger you develop your skills faster, but when you’re older you have different tools that can help you also to acquire new knowledge. For that reason we offer courses for all ages from juniors to seniors, everyone is going to find a course to start getting into the Spanish-speaking world.

Our teachers

Our teachers are dynamic, friendly and incredibly motivated. Each school’s academic coordinator selects them based on their education, teaching experiences, interpersonal and professional skills, cultural background, patience and enthusiasm.

They are always available to help you make the most out of your Spanish program and your time on your educational travel.

All of them are not only excellent educators, but also passionate mentors and team leaders for a wide range of activities and initiatives.

Teaching Methodology

Communicative approach

A communicative approach in the classroom means that lessons will emphasize interaction as both the means and the ultimate goal of learning a language.

You will learn to express the functions that best meet your own communication needs focusing on enabling you to communicate effectively in everyday situations you may find yourself in. In our classrooms you’ll:

* Use as much Spanish as you can in every activity
* Learn with syllabus created according to your needs and interests so that you’re already familiar with the topics discussed in class
* Work a lot on your oral and listening skills but also on writing and reading.
* Learn grammar but with an innovative approach
* Learn how to use idiomatic sentences and everyday language
* Study with different types of material always up to date and chosen according to your interest towards the topic,
* Rehearse real-life situations and experience real communication.

Spanish Classes Schedule

Our lessons are organized for you to enjoy the lesson as you learn. Also you will be able to develop your communicative competences in the four main skills: speaking, reading, listening and writing. The lessons provide you contextualized grammar and expose you to the local culture.

* Materials and Homework: You’ll have homework to do eventually. remember that this will give you the opportunity to continue learning Spanish outside the school.
* No translation: Taking a language lesson with other international students is the best way to push yourself into speaking only the language in common: the one you’re learning. In our classrooms Spanish is the only language and that helps you to relate Spanish expressions to situations and not to another expression in native language.
* Focus through tasks: You’ll use Spanish in everyday situations and specific activities. That way you’ll feel comfortable enough to speak Spanish without fear to make a mistake.
* Practice: Practice makes perfect in every aspect of life and language learning is no exception. in our school you’ll find a nice place to Spanish yourself out practicing the new language every day everywhere.
* Group and Individual Activities: We combine the two types of activities in our lessons. Group activities are great for acquiring Spanish skills and to rehearse every day situations with your mates before going outside and living it with a local. But sometimes you need time to process what you’ve been learning and individual activities seem to be the fit.

Your teacher’s role

Teachers have two main roles. The first one is to enable the communication process between all participants in the classroom, and between these participants and the activities and texts. The second role is to act as an independent participant within the learning-teaching group.
Teachers will be there to help you throughout your learning process but they will also just step a side and let you speak by yourself giving you resources.

Your role

You need to enjoy the lessons from beginning to end. When else will you have the chance of focusing on learning a language and nothing else? Some tips for you are:

Be as participative as you can
Speak
Express your interests because, as you know, the more you know about a particular topic, the easier it will be for you to talk about it in Spanish.
Speak some more
Ask questions. There is no silly question.
Focus on the process of communicating rather that mastery of the language
Mistakes happen and there’s no reason to be ashamed about that. Keep speaking.

Levels & evaluations

Common European Framework of Reference (CERF)

The Common European Framework provides a common basis for the elaboration of language syllabuses, curriculum guidelines, examinations, textbooks, etc. across Europe. It describes in a comprehensive way what language learners have to learn to do in order to use a language for communication  and what knowledge and skills they have to develop so as to be able to act effectively. The description also covers the cultural context in which language is set. The Framework also defines levels of proficiency which allow learners’ progress to be measured at each stage of learning and on a life-long basis.

Levels

COINED offers 3 different levels following the requisites and guidelines from the Common European Framework of Reference: Basic (A), Intermediate (B), Advanced (C). Each level is divided into 2 sub-levels varying from lesser to greater linguistic capability:

Basic (A1): You will be able to combine elements of the Spanish language interacting in a simple way.

Elementary (A2): You will be able to interact in short social exchanges using basic sentences.

Intermediate (B1): You will learn to face problems in your everyday life and express what you want in different contexts.

High-Intermediate (B2): You will focus on communicating detailed information and personal opinions.

Advanced (C1): You will be able to produce clear, well-structured and detailed texts.

Proficiency (C2): You will acquire precision, appropriateness and ease in your Spanish.

Certificate

At the end of your course you will receive a certificate for the courses taken with information about the length of the course and the level achieved. This is complemented with a transcript with detailed observations by the teacher about the student´s progress. A transcript will state the following information:

  • Level of proficiency
  • Length of the course and number of hours taken
  • An instructor’s report on progress made during the course

We also offer preparatory courses for DELE exams, the official qualifications certifying levels and competence in the Spanish language, granted by the Spanish Ministry of Education Culture and Sport.
