La Ceiba

La Ceiba is a port city located on the northern coast of Honduras on the Caribbean Sea. It is the largest and the most vibrant city in Honduras, and officially designated as the "Capital of Honduras’ Ecotourism". Its real beauty lies in the landscapes and beautiful beaches. The city offers a very lively and diverse nightlife for all activities.  Everyone seem to celebrate life at night at various dance clubs, carnivals and festivals with the unique rhythm of Caribbean music.
You’ll find plenty of marvels to see here, such as Cuero y Salado Wildlife Refuge, a national park placed in the middle of two refreshing rivers, and with more than 35 animal species. Pico Bonito National Park is the most varied park of Honduras and the second in extension. Germoplasma Bank is a huge garden with lots of plants, fruit trees, and endemic species that will amaze you for the variety you’ll find here. For a refreshing bath, go to Zacate River, with crystal waters and beautiful waterfalls. If you are into rafting or kayaking, then Cuenca Cangrejal River is the place you should choose.

Buses and taxis make up most of the public transportation in the city, with numerous buses serving almost every available route in the city. The pier to the east of the city offers transportation via ferry to 2 of the 3 major islands that make up Islas de la Bahia; Roatan and Utila. The Golosón International Airport to the west of town offers flights to the other major cities in the country as well as other towns in the Mosquitia Region of Honduras in the east.

Wildlife Refuge Cuero y Salado: It is a protected area, dry river channels where we will see, animals in the wild and interesting birds. This provides protection to some 35 species of animals, including the manatee (or sea cow), jaguars, white-faced monkeys, lizards, etc. If you're lucky you may spot a manatee , endangered species that found here a safe place to live.

Butterfly and Other Insects Museum: The largest private museum in Honduras, with insects collected by Mr. Robert Lehman for 30 years. You will find more than 11,000 animals including: 2200 Honduran butterflies, 2400 exotic insects of Honduras , scorpions, tarantulas, centipedes, millipedes, beetles and the Scorpion Emperor of Africa (the world's largest scorpion).

Carnival: La Ceiba is known in Central America for its Isidra Fair, which takes place in May and culminates with the Grand International Friendship Carnival on the third Saturday of that month. The main street becomes a giant dance floor, where people enjoy the rhythm of Caribbean music.

Nightlife:If you are looking for fun in a club or live an intense night Honduras this is your chance. La Ceiba has everything you need to have a great time and enjoy the Caribbean music.

Parque Swinford: Created by the Standard Fruit Company and is arguably the prettiest city park in all of Honduras. Palm trees tower over hundreds of plants and flower beds, small bridges lead to gleaming bronze sculptures, and antique train cars remind visitors of the city’s role in the banana industry.

Beaches: The beaches of the Caribbean Sea in La Ceiba, are another attractive point, they border the northern part of the city and just minutes away are the beaches of Peru and El Porvenir.



La Ceiba features a tropical rainforest climate with substantial rainfall throughout the course of the year. It is one of the wettest cities in Central America.
